One of our teaching centres is to be found in the town of Isibania, near the border of Tanzania which is around 250 miles from Nairobi.
I had the pleasure of attending the first teaching session there in February of this year, on my last visit to Kenya. It was being led by our national co-ordinator, Joseph Mulwa and our local trainer, Joshua Mwita. Taking my seat, I found myself sitting next to this young man called Jackson. He appeared to be taking in all the information and talked enthusiastically about what he had just been taught, so you can understand my delight when this video was sent to me in October.
Normally from his shamba he would harvest 50kg of maize, this year he had harvested 500kg. His joy is clear for all to see, he can now feed his son, Alpha, and his wife Lucy Muubua comfortably. He has maize to sell to supply any other family needs and, in 3 years’ time, money to educate his son, Alpha. With this confidence he will now expand his shamba and make a secure future for his family.
