The village of Inyuu, in Kitui County, is situated in a semi-arid region of Kenya where Source of Hope supported the opening a Farming Conservation Centre in 2021. The people of Inyuu had to collect their water from holes dug in the dry river bed, also the journey to the river for many was over an hour, carrying heavy drums of water on their return.
Through friends of Source of Hope, funding was raised to drill for water and build a tower strong and high enough to contain 20,000 lts of water. Over half a mile of pipes have been laid through the central pathway of Inyuu, and free water is now easily accessible to over 100 families, as well as the 180 pupils at the Inyuu primary school.
Along with the supply Reliable and free access to water has meant that families can be encouraged to each grow a small allotment garden behind as many homes as garden as will allow. Health benefits will soon become apparent with a fresh supply of homegrown vegetables.
The Farm is being extended from 4 acres to 8 acres. It is intended that this project will demonstrate the benefits of Conservation Farming and will be used as a teaching centre, which will be able to train groups of people in this method of sustainable farming.
Last but not least, All Saints Primary School from Hesketh bank had a fundraising day and have supported the people with funding to buy 500 trees, to plant though out the area.
